Christmas Toy Buying Trends For 2008

on Sunday, June 10, 2012

Through the years there truly have been many changes when it comes to Christmas toys.  What factors influence the types of toys that are on the shop each year and what determines which of those toys are going to be the most popular? We'll have a look at those factors in this report and also what specifically has shaped the 2008 Christmas toy buying season.

First of all, the biggest influence on the toy shop is technology.  As science and technology grows by leaps and bounds, we see the result being incorporated into the whole scope of toys. If you are like me, and grew up in the 50's and 60's, then

Roller Skates Shops

it's truly fabulous to see the high tech toys ready today.  Back when we were kids, the concept of a hand held super gaming system, an interactive Elmo or Dinosaur, or a tiny phone that does just about all things but cook your morning meal was just unheard of.  Bikes, trains, roller-skates and dolls have not been totally supplanted these days, but the sophistication of toys ready now is truly impressive, and makes for some pretty cool presents.

The cheaper is someone else big factor affecting the toy buying trends.  When times are tough, it hurts not only the availability of toys, but also the ability of toy buyers to obtain some of the higher priced toys.

Additional influences on the toy shop are current events and the movies.  We have all seen the many toys and activity figures that have resulted from the issue of block-buster movies.  Musical group celebrities that construct a huge following are also sources of many toys.  whether the country is at peace or at war has also influenced the types of toys on the market.

2008 trends:  What has shaped this Christmas toy season and what are some of the Christmas favorites?

Remember last year?  For toy makers, last year's big threat was the worry over stock safety. This year, it's all about selling prices because of the poor shape the cheaper is in.  It's truly hard for mom and dad to think about toy buying when they have whether already lost their jobs, or are afraid that it may happen in the very near future.

So, how has the toy shop responded this year?  Well, if Joe toy shopper wont go to the mountain, then the mountain must go to Joe toy shopper.  An examples - Toys "R" Us, when they made their biggest two-day sale ever for Thanksgiving weekend, marking down 150 toys to the bottom prices of the year, some at 50% to 60% discounts.

Considered the most recession-proof projection of the retail sector, the resilience of the toy shop will still be tested by the stumbling U.S. Economy. Sales have declined three straight months at most retailers, production it one of the worst periods on record, agreeing to U.S. Government data.  Some of the most aggressive sales on toys seen for many years are in enlarge now at the major toy market and also on-line.

Since October, Wal-Mart has been selling 10 beloved toys - fluctuating from Littlest Pet Shop Vip' to Hot Wheels Trick Tracks - for , while mall retailer Kb Toys ran a one-week sale this month, chopping prices on more than 400 toys. Disney is touting gift ideas for under , such as High School Musical dolls, Handy Mandy Tool sets.

There is definitely a trend in 2008 towards lower priced toys, and the toy sellers are responding with sales. Toys "R" Us stated that so far some the hottest selling toys are Bakugan; Mattel's Elmo Live; EyeClops Night vision Goggles from Jakks Pacific; Star Wars-themed Legos; and the Tag reading law from educational toy maker Leap Frog.

Again, we see how technology has made it possible to create truly hot toys at an affordable price.  Whoever concept that you would see infrared night vision goggles ready as a Christmas gift, and for a low price as well?  Or how about a microhelicopter that is remote controlled and weighs a mere 10 grams!  Fly it all over the house, in any direction, and all for just . Simply amazing!

2008 Christmas toy buying has been shaped by high technology wonders, beloved movies, and an cheaper that is in truly bad shape.  All in all, the 2008 Christmas buying trends are positive, although buying budgets are very tight.

Happy Shopping and Merry Christmas!
