Fitness For Kids - Some Examples of Basic Kids Fitness Routines

on Tuesday, March 27, 2012

These days, more and more parents are becoming involved about the fitness of their kids. This is not surprising given the problems of childhood obesity and the expanding weight and lack of fitness that we are seeing in children. Child obesity and diabetes levels are rising dramatically. There is also the issue that many parents feel, which is that schools are paying less attentiveness and devoting less time to corporeal instruction than they used to and that children's operation levels are reduced as a result. All of this comes at a time when there is more television and video game distractions than ever that are tearing children away from the more corporeal activities that they would have once engaged in.

To combat these trends, there are a estimate of activities and routines that parents can encourage their children to take part in, and can use to growth the operation levels and fitness of their children.

Roller Skates Shops

The most leading thing to remember with kids is that you will want to make the fitness habit fun. Trying to use guilt or shame to get over weight kids to be more active is likely to back fire and bring their reliance levels down even lower. The other point to remember is that the kids need not even realise that they are being encouraged to exercise more and you can naturally slip the activities into their lives without them even noticing.

One easy way is to get the kids walking more. You may live close enough to their school to walk, or even cycle. This is a very easy way to sneak a dinky operation into their lives without them even noticing. You can also walk to other places like shops. an additional one very good idea for younger children is to buy a dog. While this will not be possible for everyone, it is an perfect excuse to have to take a walk every day and it also makes the task a dinky bit more fun and less mundane.

You can also plan fun activities for the weekend like roller blading, swimming, cycling, hill walking or ice skating. These activities are great fun and can be used to basically bribe kids into exercising. It is also a good idea to let the kids bring their friends to these activities as once they are involved in something with their friends, and they get a routine, they are much more likely to encourage each other and keep it up for longer.

What is a Longboard?

on Saturday, March 24, 2012

There are two kinds of longboards, one is a longer style surfboard and the other is like a skateboard but longer. This record will focus specifically on the skateboard type. A longboard is similar to a skateboard in many ways, but has some valuable differences. A longboard is made for cruising and not as much for the flip tricks etc done in quarterly skateboarding, Be it as a means of communication or as a form of entertainment most longboards are longer and wider than a typical skateboard and often times have very different shapes than a skateboard designed mostly to help with carving (like on a surfboard or snowboard).

Their original background comes from surfers putting trucks or roller skates on the bottom of waterskis, surfboards, etc to help them practice and keep them riding when there were no waves to surf. There are many reasons to get a longboard, anything your presume is for getting one, exercise, communication or just having fun, they are a great investment. For a relatively cheap price you can pick one up online in the favorable form of a complete longboard and without any more exertion than opportunity a box you are ready to go.

Roller Skates Shops

So why get a longboard? To get started, because they are a great way to get some exercise. Longboarding is a very fun and relaxing way of getting some good cardio rehearsal and getting your blood pumping (and if you are finding at one for your kids or grandkids, you don't even have to tell them that it's good exercise!).

They are also a great way of relaxing, try riding one just to unwind, especially down your local bike trail or through a nice park. Longboards are also a very cheap and fairly quick form of communication and are very environment friendly, not to mention how good you'll look to all your friends as your ride your new longboard around. I will often ride my longboard to the store for a quick shopping run rather than riding if the store isn't too far away. Longboarding is also a great way to comfort stress, leave behind the daily grind and just get covering and enjoy the fresh air for a minute, I frequently will go and ride my board out in the parking lot at work on a break if I need a opportunity to get out and unwind for a few minutes. Riding a longboard is also a great way to learn and / or heighten your balance.

The biggest presume to get a longboard is just to go out and have some fun! There is nothing like feeling the wind in your hair, your board under your feet and a nice hill to keep you and your longboard in motion. It is a great way to help your friends try something new, go on a date or just fill up some free time in a very satisfying way. That being said, you have nothing more left than to get yourself a longboard and start riding.

starting Skateboarding

on Sunday, March 18, 2012

When you are beginning skateboarding there are a few things you might want to do, and some things it would be well to know.

So here are 10 quick tips on beginning up:

Roller Skates Shops

1. Get a skateboard! Hehee, no seriously I mean get a skateboard you are going to be comfortable on when beginning up, that is one that is quite wide and heavy to give you good stability.

2. When you are beginning skateboarding you need all the right safety equipment, such as helmet, knee pads, wrist braces, cups etc. Skateboarding is a sport where you fall and hurt yourself, aint no 2 ways about it, so to minimise the impact get all the safety gear.

3. Find a safe place to practice. You don't want to have too many things, both inspiring or stationary, to bump into.

4. Get yourself acquainted with your board. Practice balancing on the board and staying on as long as possible. Try to organize a feel for your skateboard, all its nuances and its trajectory when you move forward.

5. Practice jumping on to your board and keeping upright. Try different angles to jump onto the board, and different areas to land on.

6. Get comfortable with your stance on the board, either goofy or regular, you settle what is best for you.

7. Start to push off on the board and gain some momentum and speed. Have your pushing foot further send than your other foot when you do this.

8. Get used to bending your knees to gain both speed and a best balance.

9. Learn how inspiring your feet over your board can influence its trajectory, Practice leaning to one side and balancing as you start to learn curves.

10. Practice stamping down on the back of your board to pop it and then balance on the board with your front foot controlling the board.

Time is a precious commodity for a working mom, and is even more precious when she is single as well. Most moms deeply love their children, but are their children feeling that love?

As a working mom of five, I had noticed that even though we did things together - attending their sports games, watching Tv, outings like putt-putt, shopping, bicycling, eating, etc., I was not always receiving the inevitable responses I wished to have. There seemed to be unnecessary quarreling, interruptive behavior, unkind comments, and a petite thread of sibling jealousy that appeared at times. I did some researching and decided to implement a convert by committing to spending alone time with each child every evening. I had read and heard that children long more for their parent's time than the things they buy or give them. A commitment such as this with my already hectic program felt huge, which I feel sure you fully understand. What I chose to do was this: reading to the younger ones, talking with the older ones, became a good listener, helping with homework, praying together, and always kissing them and saying "I love you" regardless of what had occurred that day. No Tv, no music, only us. Sometimes we'd have group story-time, but mostly it was individual ability time. Either it was 10 minutes or 30 minutes each, it was on the program and rarely omitted.

Roller Skates Shops

Perhaps you're mental right now about all your nightly tasks - fixing dinner, doing the wash, preparing clothes for the next day, exercising, chauffeuring to and from activities, cleaning the kitchen. Instead, give your kids the K.P. Duty, put in wash before beginning alone time rounds and convert to the dryer in between. Try carpooling for the to-and-from obligations, freeing you some evenings. It's all about priorities. Many times it took much of my evening. Sometimes the wash was left until the next day or I gave up some sleep to complete it before I retired, but the rewards outweighed any "sacrifice" I plan I had made.

Here are some suggestions to help you find the individualized time for your children:

* resolve this is prominent - a important part to make the
commitment doable.

* Look transmit to it and envision yourself enjoying it
before you implement it. I can promise you your
kids will read right through any faking on your part.

* Focus on each child's good qualities instead of those less
desirable ones.

* put in order extra food on your day off or on weekends and
freeze for a busy day meal. Don't succumb
to the fast food quick fix as this food is unhealthy and
doesn't provide nutrients important for raising
healthy children.

* Allow your children the privilege of helping with family
obligations...it will teach them teamwork
and the importance of working together. (I taught all my
children, boys and girls, how to iron their
clothes by first grade. Big help as they tended to toss
their clothes in disorderly array, causing
me much frustration. Doing their own ironing made a huge
change and later the girls often earned money from helping
their brothers who favorite paying for the assistance than
doing it themselves - mutual benefits!)

* When evening alone time is impossible, use every moment
you can when alone with your child -
driving places, take them to a meal alone where you can
talk with them, take a walk together
(accomplishes two things - practice and alone time!)

* Ask your child what he/she would like to do with you. Let
this child know how extra they are and
that you want to spend time with him/her.

* Do activities together - shoot baskets, hit tennis balls,
roller skate if you dare - anything works.

Anything is achievable with desire and recognition of value. My children are my most gift. Each one of them are distinct and unique as they have always been. They are grown now - twenties and thirties - but we often reflect back on our shared times. They remember that I made time for them individually which made them feel special, even if my day had been tiring and overwhelming. My recompense is five extraordinary friends of my adult children, not measurable by any earthly standards. We continue to do many things together harmoniously - not an easy feat for many families in contemporary times. Give your children their most precious gift - you! After all, love is all that undoubtedly matters.

Mom - it is prominent to take time to appreciate you so I ask you to http://www.drcarolynporter.com for ways to uplift, encourage, revitalize and enlighten you. You are worth it!

Church Camp Songs - choosing the Best

on Tuesday, March 6, 2012

When I think of church camp songs, I tend to think of those songs that are bible oriented or African-American spirituals. Actually, at the church camps I have attended, they pretty much like to sing what every person else likes to sing: silly songs, folk songs, old time songs and other customary campfire songs. In addition, they also like to sing upbeat, religious songs.

At church camps, I find that whoever is running things likes to be as organized as possible, so regularly singing colse to the campfire is not left to chance. The church campfires that I have been to regularly included any church camp songs interspersed with stories. Some of the stories were fun and some were more spiritual in nature. Most of the time, the campfire would stop with one of the ecclesiastical leaders, like a priest, priest or bishop teaching one of the stories, parables or characteristics of Jesus. I am a Christian, so this record is from my viewpoint. If you are of other religion also Christian, you could teach about your religion and/or prophets. All of the religious songs I refer to in this record are based in a Christian background. I in effect don't know of any campfire songs from other religions, but if you know of some that I could include, please email me and let me know. I would much appreciate it.

Roller Skates Shops

Below are listed some of the most popular church camp songs:

  1. Amazing Grace:
  2. This is one of the most beautiful religious songs I know. It is easy to play on the guitar with only three chords. It has one of the most recognized melodies. The song has even more meaning if you know the story behind it. The story is about John Newton, the composer of the song. It is an spirited story. If you 'google' John Newton or remarkable Grace, you will find any resources. There is also a movie called remarkable Grace about John Newton.
  3. Down by the Riverside:
  4. Like most African American Spirituals, this is a pretty easy song to learn. Many of the lines are repeated, which makes memorization easy. In most spirituals there is only a variation of two or three words in the middle of verses. This makes it easy to learn any verses quite easy.
  5. Peace Like a River:
  6. This is other spiritual that is easy to learn.
  7. I Love the Mountains:
  8. Even though this song does not talk about religion or God, I still think it a great church camp song. The presuppose I say this is because it talks about nature and all the beautiful things that God has created. It's pretty hard to sing this song without feeling gratitude and thankfulness for the many beautiful things God has created for us to enjoy.
  9. The Happy Wanderer:
  10. This song kind of goes hand in hand with the previous one. It's just a happy, feel good song about the beauties of God's creations.
  11. Kumbaya:
  12. Kumbaya is probably the all time most popular church camp song ever. It's easy to sing, easy to learn and just about every person knows it.
  13. He's Got the Whole World:
  14. Here is other African American spiritual that is probably a close second in popularity to Kumbaya.
  15. You Can't Get to Heaven:
  16. This is a fun song to sing, even though I'm sure you won't be barred from heaven just because you're wearing roller skates. If your kids take it seriously, you might want to tell them that if they die with roller skates on or in a rocking chair, they can still go to heaven. Who knows; if they believe they can't get to heaven with roller skates, maybe they'll be more careful! This is one of those songs where you could make up your own verses.
  17. Peace Like a River:
  18. This is other one of my favorites. Easy to teach, easy to learn and easy to play on the guitar. It's also a very peaceful song if it's done right. This could be done slowly or medium tempo.

If you are looking for a single church camp song that isn't here, try asking your pastor, priest or other church leader to help you. They will probably have some ideas for songs that are suitable for your denomination. If you decide to do hymns with guitar accompaniment, you might have to transpose to get it into an easier key. A lot of hymns are in flat keys, which are harder to play on guitar. Transpose it into a sharp key like G, D, A, or E.

If you know of any church camp songs or scout songs that should be on this list, or included in The Great American Campfire Songbook, please email me and let me know.

Good luck with your campfire singing; and Remember to have fun!

Training Your Pet Bird

on Sunday, March 4, 2012

If the only animal training you have done in the past has been with a dog then you need to stop right now and rethink all you know about animal training! Dogs have been domesticated for thousands of years. Most birds have never been "domesticated" Dogs are always finding to the leader of the pack, following his or her lead and trying to please them. Parrots on the other hand see themselves as your equal. Their most delight is not to do exactly what you say when you say it in hopes of pleasing their "pack leader". They are constantly trying to outline out ways to control You, straight through their behaviours and actions. Unlike dogs they don't work to please you, they work to please themselves. So in order to teach your bird a few desirable behaviours you need to work at being smarted than he is and convincing him that it was his idea in the first place!

Bird trainers use food as a reward, which is one of the things birds care about most. Because of this you should probably program training sessions before feeding your feathered friend. That way he will be extra motivated to receive the treat or reward that you give him.

Roller Skates Shops

Assuming you are beginning out with a handfed bird that is already reasonably tame, how can you teach your bird a few tricks? distinct reinforcement is the trick. So long as you are specific never to teach the bird something that could jeopardize his health, tricks can only increase your enjoyment of your bird and the whole of time you spend together.

The first step in teaching any kind of trick is to consideration a natural behaviour that can be modified genuinely into a trick. You may consideration that your bird loves to push his food nearby in his dish before he eats it. If so then your bird has already started doing a fun tiny trick, it is just up to you to teach him to modify it a bit, and make it more elaborate. You can buy a tiny wooden parrot wagon (often available at larger pet stores that carry a good selection of bird toys) or you can use a tiny die-cast hot wheels type car, and teach him to exchange the pushing habit onto the toy by loading it down with a tiny bit of food. You can offer him a reward or treat, when he gets the behaviour you want right. And don't forget to name the trick . For example say "Push the wagon (car)" every time he does it. Soon he will learn to do this on command. Remember that treats such as sunflower seeds work great as training rewards but can be very fattening so they should not constitute the basis of your birds diet! After a time your bird will begin to push without the advantage of the wagon or car having any food on it.

In the beginning it might take a while for you and your bird to genuinely learn to communicate. But once your bird learns that acting a distinct way both makes brings a reward and gives him extra attentiveness from you, his flock mate, he will get much faster at learning new tricks. learning to preform tricks can also help lasting pluckers. Sometimes birds that pluck are just plain bored! They often become the best performers, and the plucking is alleviated as a by-product of having something new to do.

Teaching "Stick 'em up" is also quite easy. When you first take your bird out of its cage they will often stretch their wings right up over their heads. When he does this point your finger at him (like a gun) and say "Stick 'em up" or "Put 'em up". After a week or two of doing this every time you see the bird stretch he will start to do it on command. If you find it helps you can offer a reward, but for a trick this easy to learn it is often not necessary.

Some other tricks that are easy modifications of general parrot behaviour include:

  • Offering a foot to shake hands
  • Hopping (dancing or pretending to be wind-up toy)
  • Bobbing its head(Answering yes)
  • Raising its crest
  • Flapping its wings (soaring like eagle, escaping the police, etc.)
  • Swinging head side to side (saying no)
  • Stomping feet (dancing)
  • Hanging from feet or beak from its perch or your hands. (acrobatics, or swinging upside down)
  • Lying on its back (play dead, or roll over)

This is not a widespread list of tricks that your pet parrot could learn, the sky (and your patience) is the limit. Playing with his natural tendencies and coordinating them with your verbal commands, you can find a virtually limitless repertoire within your bird's natural behaviour. We have all seen macaws dunking basketballs, and cockatoos roller-skating. Be sure to be on the look out, the next time you go shopping for parrot toys, for things to use as props in making your parrot's execution "Star Quality" And don't forget to make it fun! Keep your lessons short 10 to 30 minutes. You can have more than one training session per day, if you would like to reinforce the day's lesson and enlarge faster. Most importantly always end each session on a distinct note. End with a behaviour that your parrot can do well and will earn your praise and a reward.

Who Invented Skateboards?

on Friday, March 2, 2012

The fact that skateboards exist does not necessarily mean that they were invented by someone. They are one of those phenomena that just seem to have evolved. It is understanding that the idea became favorite in the 1950's. Originally called sidewalk surfers, they were a hit with the surf society on the west coast. Although it is not known who invented skateboards there are some engaging facts about them that we can pin down to individuals.

We know that skateboards were first sold commercially in 1958 by Bill and Mark Richards. These were pretty basic boards made by fixing roller skate wheels to pieces of wood - there is little that can be changed about this basic construction! This was, not surprisingly, in California, the home of the surfers. Although this is not who invented skateboards, they were probably the first retailers. The fact that skateboards were made favorite by the surf community, possible for use when there were no waves and they had nothing to do, is reflected in the shape that the boards are constructed. They are all the time surfboard shaped, particularly some of the smaller plastic ones that were so favorite in the 1960s and 70s.

Roller Skates Shops

One other fact that we know is who invented skateboard kicktails. This was Richard Stevenson and he patented the establish in 1969. This was as an revision to the basic establish of the boards to help achieve tricks by lifting up the front end. This has come to be an indispensable part of the contemporary skateboard.

Another establish element that was patented was much more recent. In 1993 a patent was issued for the platform steerable skateboard. This was to a Thomas Welsh. Once again, this is not who invented skateboards, but absolutely person who was instrumental in their evolution.

The basic establish of the skateboard does not seem to have one particular, definitive inventor. They were originally just a plank of 4 x 2 on a roller skate. This was probably a roller skate belonging to your sister and, as you can make two skateboards out of her roller skates, it no doubt bought you a friend as well. The chances are that skateboarders of that day were all the time seen in pairs! As we know, necessity is the mom of invention and possibly it was person who could not find both their roller skates who invented skateboards. I do not think that we will ever find an answer.

There are probably many population out there who would claim to know who invented skateboards, and maybe even some who would claim the crown themselves. I in effect remember my father telling me a long time ago that he used to fasten his school books to a roller skate with his belt, sit on it and occupation down the hill to school. This would have been in the 1940s in England! possibly he deserves the crown!

Used Mobility Scooters

on Thursday, March 1, 2012

Until a few years ago, the only store of mobility scooters comprised of the elderly and the disabled. However, in recent years, people of roughly all age brackets are opting for mobility scooters given their convenience and ease in getting around places. This has led to a wide expansion of the market, leading to any new versions and modifications in mobile scooting to be introduced. As the prices are increasing, a consequential secondhand store has also opened up.

In past years, mobile scooters had no resale values. The prime reckon for this was most scooters were prescribed by doctors and hence they could be available to the buyer with coverage of the entire cost. mobile scooters are also Vat exempt, and hence they are very cheap buys. But now, people wishing to buy scooters without prescriptions have the selection of buying a used scooter.

Roller Skates Shops

There are determined precautions to be taken while considering a used scooter. The prime area of concern is the battery in electric mobility scooters. Though rechargeable lead batteries are used, it should be realized that batteries have a exiguous life. More often than not, new batteries may be needed while buying used scooters. Other electric features like the charging points and the motors need to be tested.

Mobility scooters are highly flexible vehicles. Major involving parts are the wheel axles, the tiller and the seat. All of these must be properly scrutinized, especially the seats. Scooters have cushioned plush seats that can swivel from 90 degrees to 360 degrees. The swivel must be checked. This is also true of the tiller, without which the scooter will lose its maneuverability.

Mobility scooters are ordinarily companions for life and are not resold. people may consider selling them if they buy newer and best scooters, or in some other unfortunate circumstance. Though not necessary, it is advisable to know a bit about the history of the scooter. This would throw some light on how the scooter has been used and give an idea of the maintenance it would require.

The price of a used mobility scooter depends on the seller. It may range from 0 to 0, depending on the features and the brand of the mobility scooter.
