on Thursday, June 14, 2012

Pauanui is a place that hums. It's partly due to the influx of summertime visitors that boost the local resident habitancy from 1,200 to 12,000; and the golden sand beach that's 4 kilometres long; and the town that packs in fine dining cafeteria and casual cafes to just about every sporting and outdoor operation imaginable.

But what makes Pauanui in fact hum is the sound of hidden planes buzzing in and out of the airport as Pauanui is a playground for the rich. The Pauanui waterways were the first in Nz; a purpose built society with marinas, apartments, residential homes, hidden berths and its own hidden beach.

But Pauanui is more than just a holiday spot for the rich and famous. This is a place where daily habitancy have been arrival to for years to enjoy the sea, surf, sun and lifestyle. That's the great thing about Pauanui; the lifestyle, as Pauanui caters for everybody either you arrive by plane or combi van. Park up your car and jump on your bike (or hire one) as the contract size of Pauanui means cycling is the excellent mode of vehicle to get colse to this beachside resort.

The first place to start is the beach. 4 kilometres of golden sand that's not only safe for swimming but has some great surf spots. This is also an excellent beach for walking, running and biking and at the southern end of the beach, there's also wheelchair access. Stretching the distance of the beach is a wide grass area with lots of trees, ideal for picnics or for getting some shade from sun.

The Pauanui society love visiting families and have pulled out all the stops to make Pauanui a fun place for kids. The skate park is a favourite hangout for skateboarders and roller bladders to pull tricks with colse to outdoor basketball courts to shoot some hoops. There are 16 tennis courts colse to Pauanui, all accessed by a placing a token in a honesty box. Kite flying, kids cricket and touch rugby are favourite activities at Kennedy Park. Pauanui's Mini Golf procedure was opened in 1975 and is as favorite as ever with families. Head to Tairua Harbour (which lies between Pauanui and Pauanui's twin resort Tairua) and there's boating, fishing, windsurfing, jet skiing and kayaking. You can also take the kids on a ferry trip across the harbour to visit Tairua, a picturesque settlement and beach resort with a laid back, relaxed ambience.

However, Pauanui doesn't forget the adults. There's two 9 hole golf courses and the magnificent Lakes Resort 18 hole golf course. The climb to the top of Mt Pauanui is not for the faint hearted but worth it for the foreseen, 360o views. Then treat yourself (after that climb you know you've earned it) with a visit to the Grand Mecure Puka Park Resort. Miha cafeteria is very recommended by the locals and preponderant for its fine cuisine. Surrounded by lush plants and trees, dine alfresco on the large outdoor deck and in fact feel like you're on holiday. Or indulge yourself at Puka Park's spa complex. Soak in the spa pool, relax in the sauna or spoil yourself with a nature's touch facial or treatment.

For something that'll in fact get your heart racing, head to the airport and go tandem ski diving. This is an foreseen, way to see Pauanui and one you'll never forget. If staying inside a plane is more to your liking, then take one of the regular scenic flights and get a bird's eye view on Pauanui and the Coromandel. Back on the ground, head to Johnasen's Adventures for clay shooting and try your hand (you'll probably need both) at the confidence course.

Like everything else, food is also something that Pauanui does in fact well. Head right for the Pauanui shopping centre as it's all here; from great shopping to breathtaking dining.

For the coffee hounds, your first stop is Chocolate Pretzel as it has the best coffee in town. Like its name, this place is a real delight with indoor/outdoor seating and a lovely casual dining atmosphere. If you're feeling hungry, then look no added than the melt in your mouth salmon frittata.

For something cheap and cheerful, a visit to the 19th hole is a must. favorite for its light meals and pizzas, the 19th Hole sparks up at night with big screen Tvs for watching live sport, poker nights and live music.
Styles cafeteria and Bar is the place for evening dining. With an a la carte menu and outdoor Bbq and organery bar, locals advise Styles for its fish, lamb and chicken dishes.

There's so much to do in Pauanui, it's easy to see why habitancy come back here year after year and never go in any place else. So come and visit Pauanui and see what makes this such a great place.

on Saturday, June 2, 2012

What great way to find out how to voyage and what to see in New York City, then from a New York City TaxiDriver? My name is William and have been driving a taxi here since the summer of 1980. I was also a securities messenger in the wall street area briefly in the 1970's.

Lets start off by explaining that New York City is comprised of 5 boroughs.
These are Brooklyn,Queens,Manhattan,Staten Island and The Bronx.
To those of you who dont know,Manhattan is an Island and is where alot of the great sites and sounds of New York City can be experienced. For this article,we will focus on what to see and how to voyage within the island of Manhattan.

Roller Skates Shops

Probably the most well renown site in the city is The Empire State Building which is located at 34th street and 5th Avenue. For many years this building was the tallest buildings in the world.

Another great site to see, especially in the fall,is the massive Christmas Tree lighting ceremony that takes place in the heart of Rockefeller Center. There's also a beautiful ice skating rink thats open to the public. Rockefeller Center is located on 50th street in the middle of 5th and 6th Avenues.
Next is The United Nations which is located at 42nd-46th street and 1st Avenue.

An area of amusement which is a must see is called The Chelsea Piers.
This is a huge complicated that houses an indoor golf driving range, bowling alley, ice skating and roller skating rinks,an archery area, baseball batting cages, large gymnasium for basketball, and an olympic sized swimming pool among other things.
The Chelsea Piers is located at 23rd street and 12th Avenue.

Next up is an awesome man made wonder that was constructed in the 19th century.
Streching from 59th street to 110th Street,5th Avenue to Central Park West,is none other than Central Park. Events such as live concerts and gatherings are held here when the weather is nice. There is also a zoo,ice skating rink, lakes, baseball fields and a dining place called Tavern On The Green, all located within the park.

Two exact must see's are The Museum Of Natural History(81st Street&Central Park West)
and The Museum Of modern Art(82nd Street&5th Avenue) Very close by,within walking length of the museum of natural history is The Hayden Planetarium.

Another museum of note is The Cloisters.Located at 155th street and Broadway, close to the West Side Highway. This museum showcases all artifacts, photographs, paintings, carvings and history of The Native American Indian.

The New York Stock Exchange located at Wall street and Broad Street

Battery Park located at the Southern tip of Manhattan. Ferries to The sculpture Of Liberty and Ellis Island are found here.

The South street Seaport located at Fulton street and South Street. Abundance of great seafood here along with wonderful sites to be seen.

For those of you who have never been here before, there are some terms that I should make you aware of.

East Side,Lower East Side,West Side,Upper East Side,Upper West Side,Chelsea,Tribeca,SoHo,The Village,The East Village,The West Village,Midtown,Gramercy Park,China Town,Little Italy.

Greenwich Village is known for there outdoor european style cafes..nice boutiques, art galleries, and antiques. You can all the time find things to do in The Village.

China Town is an area of about 6 blocks that showcases all about the chinese culture.
Great restaurants, small shops, lots of history. A must see.

Little Italy is also an area of about 6-7 blocks with great italian restaurants and is very close to china town.

There are more restaurants per sqare block in Manhattan than in any place in the world. So,finding a place to eat will not be a problem.

Now lets talk about The New York City Subway principles which has more quadrate miles of track than any city in the world. Here is an online map of the New York City Subway System. If your planning to visit New York City in the future,
this is a great tool to use.

In summary,New York City has the most diversified habitancy and cultures than in any place in the world.
The neighborhoods and communities of the habitancy that live and work here,in my opinion, are second to none.

Driving my Taxi or online,I will occasionally talk to habitancy that say they have heard so many bad things about New York City. True, there are incidents here but because this is New York City, those incidents tend to get magnified in the media. Sure,we have our problems, but what city in the world doesn't?
I would say that the good of New York City,by far, outweighs the bad.

Here are a few sites for your viewing pleasure.
